Week 2: Settling on a theme

In the second week the focus was to start experimenting with Expert Systems, hearing the Inspirational Professor’s thoughts, and settling on a theme and Expert.

The team started the week by meeting with the Inspirational Professor Zita Vale, in which we exposed our ideas, heard her suggestions and asked her to be our Expert.

Since the professor had given us various theme choices, we met with our mentor Helder Pereira and settled on the theme of the Management of the Energy Resources of a Community from the perspective of the Energy Aggregator. Further details will be discussed with the Inspirational Professor next week.

In the course unit of PPROGIA, it was introduced game theory exploring the origins, use cases and inner workings of the Minimax algorithm, including a PROLOG implementation for the game ‘Tic Tac Toe’. It was also provided two implementations of Expert Systems that were used to solve a plastic identification assignment.

Similarly, In the course unit ENGCIA, different inference techniques were presented, and we started to explore one of the tools we will be using to make the Expert System – DROOLS – by analysing and completing an Expert System related to health – haemorrhages, more specifically.
